Captain Reid Gillings' Log
Sept. 13,2009 Starting time-6:00 PM Ending Time-6:30 PM Time Working-30 min.
Today I cut and burned my map today in my garage. We used my dad's lighter that doesn't work very well. While my dad held the map I carefully burned the edges(this is to make the map look old). Then we went inside to boil the tea. After we boiled the tea I dipped the edges into it. Then I brushed a little bit of the tea in the middle.
Sept. 14,2009 Starting time-5:00 PM Ending time-5:30 PM Time Working-30min.
Today I drew the rough draft of my map. I decided to draw my neighborhood as my map. I also drew several hidden clues along the way. There is a bow an arrow to kill the monster in the ocean. There is a key to open the bridge to get to the boat. There is an anchor to park the boat while you are getting the hidden treasure. If you get the hidden items the treasure will be easy to receive.
Sept. 16,2009 Starting Time-6:00 PM Ending Time-7:00 PM Time Working-60 min.
Today I drew my treasure map. First,I drew the map in pencil. Then I traced back over it in sharpie. After that,I added more detail to my map. Then,I colored it in with my colored markers. Finally, I took a picture of the final product. If you follow these instructions then your map will be fun and easy to make.
Sept. 20,2009 Starting Time-5:00 PM Ending Time-6:00 PM Time Working-60min.
Today I put my notebook together. I made a title page with a picture of my product. I also made my material list. Then I typed the step by step instructions on how the product was made. Then I did my Captain's Log in a chart. I included photos of me in the process of making the product. Then I topped it off with two paragraphs about treasure maps and how they are made.

TREASURE MAPS

Treasure maps started back when only the pirates could use them. Now millions of people use treasure maps. They use them for treasure hunts, scavenger hunts, and some people just like to draw them. Let's go back when pirates actually existed. Pirates used treasure maps for several different things. They used them to find thier way to their destination. They used them to get around the ship. They also used them to find out which direction they needed to go with the compass rose drawn on it.
To make a treasure map you need several different things. You need a brown paper bag, colored markers, ruler, scissors, tea, your brain's creativity, Internet(research), Lighter, and some string. You may add different supplies if you want to make it better. Get the brown paper bag and the scissors. Cut the bag if you need it to be smaller. Get the lighter with an adult and burn the edges of the brown paper bag. Make some tea and then roll the map up and dip the edges into the teapot. After you let it dry then you will need to draw your map with a pencil. Then trace back over the pencil with colored markers to complete the drawing. Now you have your own treasure map.treasure_map.jpg
